Terms of Use
The legal agreement between you and Wingd Ltd when you create an account or use the app.
These terms are a legal agreement between you and Wingd Ltd. Please read them before you use the app.
Welcome to Wingd. These Terms of Use (the terms) explain the rules for using the Wingd app. The Wingd website at wingd.co.uk has separate website terms. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not create or continue using an account.
Wingd is operated by Wingd Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17181361), with its registered office at 9 The Front, Hartlepool, TS25 1BS. In these terms, Wingd, we, us and our mean Wingd Ltd, and you and your mean you, the person using the app.
These terms sit alongside two other documents that also form part of your agreement with us: our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your personal data, and our Community Guidelines, which set out how you are expected to behave on Wingd.
1. Who can use Wingd
You must be at least 18 years old to use Wingd. There is no exception. Wingd is rated 18+ on the relevant app store and we require your date of birth at sign-up. We block access where the date of birth you provide shows that you are under 18. We may suspend an account and ask for additional evidence if we reasonably believe the user may be under 18.
- You confirm that you are 18 or over, that the information you give us is true, and that you are legally able to enter into this agreement.
- You may only hold one account, and it must be for yourself. You cannot create an account for someone else or on behalf of a group.
- You cannot use Wingd if you are not allowed to under any law that applies to you, or if we have previously banned you.
- If we find that you are under 18, or otherwise not allowed to use Wingd, we will close your account.
2. Your account
To sign up or log in, you give us your phone number. We send a one-time code to that number by text message to confirm you control it. Wingd does not use passwords. Your email address is a contact address for receipts and support replies only. It cannot be used to log in or recover your account, and you can change it in Settings at any time.
- You are responsible for keeping control of the phone number connected to your Wingd account and for everything that happens on your account. Do not share verification codes or let anyone else use your account.
- Keep your account details accurate and up to date.
If you lose access to your phone number, there is no self-service account recovery route. Email help@wingd.co.uk and we will verify you manually. If you think someone has accessed your account without your permission, contact help@wingd.co.uk straight away.
3. What Wingd offers
Wingd is a dating app built around intentional connection rather than endless swiping. The main features are:
- A profile with photos, prompts, interests, and lifestyle information that you choose to share.
- A daily photo that you take in the moment and that disappears automatically after 24 hours.
- A limited number of likes each day, which encourages you to be more considered about who you connect with.
- Matching, including availability matching, which pairs you with people whose free days overlap with yours.
- Chat with your matches using text messages and voice notes.
- Exclusive Mode, which two matched users can choose together to temporarily hide from Discovery and restrict access to other matches and chats (see section 4.1).
- An AI Wingman that can help with conversations and give private dating advice (see section 5).
- In-real-life dating events run by local businesses (see section 8).
- Safety tools, including blocking and reporting (see section 7).
We may reasonably add, improve, replace or remove features for product, technical, security, legal or regulatory reasons. If a change materially affects the core service or your rights, we will give reasonable notice where practicable. Wingd is for your own personal, non-commercial use only.
4. Likes, matches, and availability
- Each day you get a limited number of likes to spend. The count resets each day on UK time. The exact number may change as we develop the app.
- You can like someone's photo or one of their prompts, and you can add a short message if you want.
- A match is created when there is interest from both sides. Once you have matched, you can chat.
- Availability matching shows you people who share at least one free day with you over the coming days. You choose which days to mark as free, and you can change them at any time.
- To keep conversations moving, matches can expire if there is no activity for a period of time. When a match expires it is archived, and the people involved may appear to each other again in the future as normal. The exact timing may change as we develop the app.
- The daily photo must be taken at the time rather than uploaded from your photo library, and it must show your face. You unlock other people's daily photos for the day by posting your own.
- We do not promise that you will get any likes, matches, messages, dates, or any particular result from using Wingd.
4.1 Exclusive Mode
- Exclusive Mode is available only between users who are already matched. One person can send an Exclusive request and the other can accept or decline it. Nothing changes unless the request is accepted.
- Once accepted, both profiles are hidden from Discovery. While Exclusive Mode is active, each person can access and message only the person they are exclusive with on Wingd. Other existing matches and chats are kept but temporarily disappear from that user’s normal match and chat views.
- Pending likes that were already waiting for either person are kept and become available again when Exclusive Mode ends. Likes either person sent before Exclusive Mode remain in the recipient’s inbox and can still be accepted. If a previously sent like is accepted while the sender is in Exclusive Mode, the resulting match is saved but will not be shown to the sender until Exclusive Mode ends.
- Either person can end Exclusive Mode at any time without needing the other person’s permission. It ends immediately, other saved matches, chats and pending likes become available again, and the other person is notified. Ending Exclusive Mode does not by itself unmatch the two people or delete their chat.
- Blocking and reporting remain available at all times. A block, report or other safety action that removes the other person from your experience takes priority over Exclusive Mode.
- Exclusive Mode only controls activity inside Wingd. Wingd does not verify whether either person is exclusive in real life or on another app or service, and accepting Exclusive Mode is not a guarantee or promise about a relationship.
5. AI Wingman
The AI Wingman is a set of automated features powered by Anthropic. It includes a private advice chat, a helper inside a conversation with a match, and an occasional nudge if a conversation goes quiet. In-chat Wingman is off by default. After sign-up, a separate prompt explains these features and asks you to choose whether to enable them. Accepting these terms is not consent to in-chat AI. If you do not answer, in-chat Wingman stays off.
Both people must opt in before either manual @ai requests or quiet-chat nudges can send messages from their conversation to Anthropic. We check both choices before each disclosure. Either participant can change their choice in Profile using “Wingman in your chats”. If either person declines or withdraws, both in-chat features are disabled for that match for both people. You must respect the other person’s choice. The private advice chat in Settings is separate and is unaffected by this setting.
The AI generates its responses automatically. It can be wrong, out of date, or unhelpful, and it does not understand your situation the way a person would. It is there to assist and to make the app more fun, not to give you professional, legal, medical, financial, or relationship advice. Do not rely on it for important decisions, and always use your own judgment.
When an in-chat AI feature is triggered with both people’s consent, messages from that conversation are processed by Anthropic to generate a reply. We do not include profile fields, photos or other conversations, but messages may contain personal information you have written. Private advice messages are sent when you choose to use that separate feature. Our provider does not use commercial API content to train its models by default, but requests remain subject to its safety and retention rules. Withdrawing in-chat consent stops future disclosures; content already sent remains subject to the provider retention described in our Privacy Policy.
6. Your content
Your content means anything you put on Wingd, including your photos, prompts, bio, profile details, messages, and voice notes.
- You keep ownership of your content. We do not claim to own it.
- So that we can run the service, you give us a licence to host, store, copy, display, and share your content where this is needed. For example, this lets us show your profile to other users and deliver your messages and voice notes to your matches. This licence is worldwide, non-exclusive, and royalty-free, and lasts only for as long as reasonably needed to operate Wingd and meet our legal and safety duties. It does not allow us to use your content to train general-purpose AI models, sell it, or use it in advertising without a separate lawful basis and clear notice.
- You confirm that your content is yours to share, that you have the right to share it, and that it does not break the law or infringe anyone else's rights, including privacy and intellectual property rights.
- You must not post content that breaks these terms or our Community Guidelines. We can remove content that does, and we can take action on your account.
- When you delete content or your account, we remove it from ordinary use except for limited information kept for safety, legal or regulatory reasons. Unmatched or blocked chats may have a restricted server-side safety copy for 30 days after unmatch or 6 months after block, and report evidence is kept for 24 months from report closure, subject to documented holds explained in our Privacy Policy. The profile as it appeared when reported is kept for 24 months, with its images kept for 90 days. Deleted database data may remain in Supabase backups for up to 7 days. Encrypted Cloudflare R2 backups cover profile photos, daily photos and voice notes while the originals exist. After an hourly backup check detects deletion of an original, its backup is retained for a 30-day recovery period and then removed by a subsequent scheduled run. Backups are restricted to recovery use; restored data that is no longer needed is re-deleted.
7. How you must behave, and your safety
Wingd only works if people are honest and treat each other with respect. The full rules are in our Community Guidelines. In short, you must not:
- Pretend to be someone you are not, or use someone else's photos or identity.
- Harass, bully, threaten, stalk, or abuse anyone.
- Pressure, threaten, shame, manipulate, monitor or control someone through Exclusive Mode, including pressuring them to accept it or remain in it.
- Post content that is illegal, hateful, discriminatory, violent, threatening, exploitative, or intended to cause serious harm.
- Post, send, request, generate, or share nudity, pornography, sexually explicit content, sexual services, or graphic sexual messages. This rule applies even where another user appears to agree to receive it.
- Share other people's private information without their permission.
- Spam, advertise, promote other services, solicit money, or run scams.
- Use Wingd for any commercial purpose.
- Collect or scrape data about other users.
- Try to break, bypass, or interfere with the app's security, or use bots or other automated tools.
- Use Wingd if you are under 18, or help anyone under 18 to use it.
Blocking, reporting, and moderation
- You can block another user from their profile or from a chat, including while Exclusive Mode is active. Blocking is mutual in effect, takes priority over Exclusive Mode, removes the match between you, and stays in place until the person who placed the block removes it from their Blocked Users list. The restricted 6-month safety-evidence period associated with a block is separate from whether the block is later removed.
- You can report a user at any time, including while Exclusive Mode is active. Reporting removes that person from your experience, so Exclusive Mode with that person cannot continue, and alerts our team. We keep a record of the report so that deleting an account cannot erase the safety trail.
- We screen profile and daily photos automatically for nudity or explicit content and remove content that fails this check. Wingd does not allow sexual content in profiles, photos, prompts, text messages, voice notes, or AI-assisted messages.
- If you break these terms or our Community Guidelines, if content may be illegal, or if we reasonably need to protect users, we can remove content, restrict features, suspend your account, or ban you. Bans can follow your phone number, so the same number cannot simply be used to sign up again. We may also preserve and report information where the law requires it, including mandatory reporting of detected and previously unreported child sexual exploitation and abuse content.
Online safety complaints and appeals
You can report content or conduct in the app or contact support@wingd.co.uk. We review reports, take proportionate action and keep records where required. If we remove your content, restrict your account or ban you, you may appeal by replying to the decision notice or emailing support@wingd.co.uk. The appeal should explain why you believe the decision was wrong and include any relevant context. A different review will be used where reasonably possible. We may limit information where disclosure could put someone at risk, reveal another person’s private information or prejudice an investigation.
Meeting people and your safety
We want to be clear about this: we do not carry out background checks or identity checks on users, and we cannot confirm that people are who they say they are.
- You are responsible for your own interactions and your own safety, both in the app and when you meet someone in person.
- Take sensible precautions. Get to know someone before you meet, meet in a public place the first few times, and tell a friend or family member where you are going.
- We are not responsible for the conduct of any user, whether on Wingd or anywhere else.
8. Events
- Wingd may list approved or verified in-person dating events run by third-party businesses, such as speed dating or themed nights, and may allow users to sign up through the app where that option is available. Before any event accepts sign-ups through Wingd, the required event-host safety and data-sharing controls must be in place.
- When you sign up for an event, we show you the host business, exactly what information will be shared and a link to the host’s privacy information before you confirm. This normally includes your name, age and gender. For an event intended for a specific sexual orientation, we ask for separate explicit consent before sharing information that reveals your sexual orientation.
- Events are organised and run by those businesses, not by us. Each host business acts as a separate data controller for attendee information and is responsible for the event, venue, organiser conduct and its own privacy duties. Nothing in these terms excludes responsibility that Wingd cannot lawfully exclude, including responsibility for our own negligence or breach of consumer law.
- If you attend an event, you do so at your own risk and must follow the organiser’s and venue’s rules. The safety points in section 7 apply to events too.
9. Internal systems
Age, distance, gender and mutual “interested in” preferences decide which profiles are eligible to appear. An internal interaction score then orders eligible profiles by score proximity, so people with closer scores are generally shown to one another first. The score affects ordering only: it does not prevent a profile from being shown, exclude anyone from Wingd or determine access to a feature. We do not use religion or sexuality labels to calculate the score. We test that the calculation and ordering work as intended and review any material change to how the score is used. The score is never shown to you or anyone else and is not a public rating or judgment of you as a person.
10. Cost and payments
- Wingd is currently free to use.
- We may introduce paid features or subscriptions in the future. If we do, we will show you the price and the terms before you buy anything, and you will never be charged without agreeing first.
- Any purchases you make through the Apple App Store or Google Play are handled by Apple or Google under their own terms, including their rules on billing and refunds.
11. Our intellectual property
- Wingd, including the name, logo, branding, design, text, and software, belongs to us or to our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws.
- We give you a limited, personal, non-transferable, and revocable licence to use the app for its intended purpose while you comply with these terms.
- You must not copy, change, distribute, sell, rent, or create anything based on the app or any part of it, except where the law allows.
If you believe any content on Wingd infringes your intellectual property rights, contact us at support@wingd.co.uk.
12. Third-party services
Wingd relies on third-party providers to operate, for example for hosting, sending text messages and emails, the AI features, and app distribution. Where those services are involved, their terms may also apply to you. Our Privacy Policy lists the providers that handle personal data. We are not responsible for third-party services that are outside our control.
13. App store terms
If you download Wingd from the Apple App Store, the following also applies:
- These terms are between you and Wingd Ltd only, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide any support or maintenance for the app.
- If the app fails to meet any warranty that cannot be excluded by law, you can tell Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price if you paid one. To the maximum extent allowed by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- Wingd Ltd, not Apple, is responsible for dealing with any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app does not meet a legal requirement, and claims under consumer protection or privacy law.
- Wingd Ltd, not Apple, is responsible for investigating and resolving any claim that the app infringes someone's intellectual property rights.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country that is subject to a relevant trade embargo, and that you are not on any list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and Apple has the right to enforce them against you.
If you download Wingd from Google Play, you must also comply with the Google Play Terms of Service.
14. Availability and service standard
- We aim to keep Wingd available and to provide the service with the reasonable care and skill required by law. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free availability, and maintenance, security work, outages or circumstances outside our reasonable control may temporarily affect the service.
- We do not guarantee that Wingd will meet every expectation or lead to any particular number of likes, matches, dates or relationships. Nothing in these terms removes or limits your statutory consumer rights.
Nothing in these terms removes or limits your legal rights as a consumer that cannot be removed or limited by law.
15. Our responsibility to you
- Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability where the law does not allow us to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or your statutory consumer rights.
- We are responsible for loss or damage that is a reasonably foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or our failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that we did not cause, that was not reasonably foreseeable, or for business losses where you use Wingd for a purpose outside the personal, consumer use permitted by these terms. Other users and independent event hosts are responsible for their own conduct, but this does not remove any responsibility Wingd has under applicable law for its own acts or omissions.
- If something outside our reasonable control delays or prevents the service, we will take reasonable steps to reduce the effect where practicable.
16. Your responsibility to us
You are responsible for any loss or claim that arises from your breach of these terms, from content you post, or from your unlawful use of Wingd, to the extent that loss or claim is not caused by us.
17. Suspending or ending your account
- You can stop using Wingd at any time. You can pause or delete your account from within the app.
- We can suspend, restrict, or close your account where you materially breach these terms or the Community Guidelines, where the law requires it, or where we reasonably need to protect users, the service or an investigation. We may act immediately where the risk is urgent. Where reasonably possible and lawful, we will tell you the general reason and provide the appeal route described in section 7.
- When your account ends, your right to use the app ends too. Some parts of these terms continue to apply afterwards, including the content licence for anything we still need to hold, intellectual property, our and your responsibilities, and governing law.
- What happens to your data when your account is deleted, including the limited information we keep for safety and legal reasons, is explained in our Privacy Policy.
18. Changes to these terms
- We may update these terms where there is a valid reason, including a change in law or regulation, security or safety requirements, technical changes, or a material change to Wingd’s features or business model.
- We will post the updated terms with a new “last updated” date. For material changes that could disadvantage you, we will give reasonable advance notice where practicable through the app or by email and explain when the change takes effect.
- If you do not agree with a material change, you can stop using Wingd and delete your account before it takes effect. Changes required urgently for law, security or safety may take effect sooner.
19. Governing law and disputes
- These terms, and any dispute connected with them or with your use of Wingd, are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
- If you are a consumer, you can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales, and you may also have the right to bring a claim in the courts of the part of the UK where you live. We agree to the courts of England and Wales having jurisdiction.
If you have a problem, please contact us first at support@wingd.co.uk so we can try to put it right.
20. Other important terms
- These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines, are the whole agreement between you and us about your use of Wingd.
- If you send us feedback or suggestions, we can use them freely and without any obligation to you.
- If any part of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the rest of the terms still apply.
- If we do not enforce a right or a term straight away, that does not mean we give up that right.
- We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another company, for example if our business is sold. This will not affect your rights. You may not transfer your rights or obligations to anyone else without our written agreement.
- Except for Apple's rights under section 13, no one other than you and us has any right to enforce these terms.
